BardBliss: Margaret Gibson's Collect

Tulip leaves outlined with red.

Collect
by Margaret Gibson

Autumn wind scatters the petals of the cloud tree.

When I let the wind grow within me as well,
light
shivers off the blue skin of the Sound,

a sharp-shinned hawk rides the billow

beyond the coastal
edge of tupelo, pepperidge, black gum --

three names for one tree
soonest red
in the salt marsh.

What thou lovest well is hidden
nakedly, not withheld.

Prayers are not enough. You must do something.
